4) The profs are great at NJIT (where I am studying) but the students suck. You know why???? Because the students admitted here dont have to be bright, they get here even with low GRE scores.The syllabus reduces, the standard reduces. I have personally experienced what happens if students who are not competent study in a class. That's why IIT's shud remain untouched. Tell him that out of the exisitng 21% SC/ST quota in IIT, only 20% ever graduate.Is that an efficient system? What happens to the remaining 80%? Their lives are affected. IIT resources are wasted. IIT is great not because of the research in the univ, it is because the students have cleared 'the most competitive and tough exam in the world'. Everyone knows that.

8) Really Arunmozhi, does reserving seats for OBC's fix all problems based on caste in India? You're talking about say 7000 seats max, out of which 1000 will go unused and 2000 wont clear the semesters and graduate.
If so ask him to go to a village and see how moneylenders harass farmers. How non-brahmin upper castes beat and ill-treat dalits.I think if politicians really thought about improving their conditions, they should look into these villages and impart harsh punishment to anyone who practices discrimination. 9) Reservation as a concept is fine. However I have a problem with it solely based on caste for reasons above. The U.S gives admits to students based on standardised test scores. (meaning if a child in village does well in it's environment, school then he/she is bound to do well in the university even if the score is lower than say a child in the city.) The politicians are 2 lazy to implement any new system that would benefit all. Instead, they want to gain votes by stealing seats from those who get in through merit and kill the aspirations of poor forward communities who have no where to go.

THere are already very few good medical colleges like AIIMS in India.The number of Post graduate seats is very limited.Poor docs, they work so freaking hard for the entrance exams in PG, butthere's no point in working hard. 4) The profs are great at NJIT (where I am studying) but the students suck. You know why???? Because the students admitted here dont have to be bright, they get here even with low GRE scores.The syllabus reduces, the standard reduces. I have personally experienced what happens if students who are not competent study in a class. That's why IIT's shud remain untouched. Tell him that out of the exisitng 21% SC/ST quota in IIT, only 20% ever graduate.Is that an efficient system? What happens to the remaining 80%? Their lives are affected. IIT resources are wasted. IIT is great not because of the research in the univ, it is because the students have cleared 'the most competitive and tough exam in the world'. Everyone knows that.

8) Really Arunmozhi, does reserving seats for OBC's fix all problems based on caste in India? You're talking about say 7000 seats max, out of which 1000 will go unused and 2000 wont clear the semesters and graduate.
If so ask him to go to a village and see how moneylenders harass farmers. How non-brahmin upper castes beat and ill-treat dalits.I think if politicians really thought about improving their conditions, they should look into these villages and impart harsh punishment to anyone who practices discrimination. 9) Reservation as a concept is fine. However I have a problem with it solely based on caste for reasons above. The U.S gives admits to students based on standardised test scores. (meaning if a child in village does well in it's environment, school then he/she is bound to do well in the university even if the score is lower than say a child in the city.) The politicians are 2 lazy to implement any new system that would benefit all. Instead, they want to gain votes by stealing seats from those who get in through merit and kill the aspirations of poor forward communities who have no where to go.

THere are already very few good medical colleges like AIIMS in India.The number of Post graduate seats is very limited.Poor docs, they work so freaking hard for the entrance exams in PG, butthere's no point in working hard. Their counterpart OBC's who study in the same classroom, eat the same food, get the same books can clear thePG exams very easily simply because - 'Oh Dear God, my father's fatherwas insulted by the forward caste's father's father'.
